🐎 ABOUT THE KAZAKH HORSES
We work with the dedicated National Park rangers who spend their days patrolling the rugged mountain trails on horseback. These Kazakh horses are sure-footed, hardy, and well-trained, ideal for both novice and experienced riders. Unlike some less reliable horses you may encounter in other regions, these horses are calm even with flapping raincoats or sudden movements.
We offer a range of horses – from calm, beginner-friendly types to more spirited ones like 'Sparkles the Destroyer' for experienced riders. The tack is basic but functional, and the horses respond well to neck-reining. These horses are not just part of the journey – they’re part of the experience.
🐾 WHAT’S THE RIDING PACE LIKE?
Expect variety. On this trek, the pace ranges from relaxed walking to thrilling gallops across open meadows. You’ll sometimes dismount to cross rugged terrain, especially in mountainous or forested areas.
Experienced riders are welcome to ride at faster paces in open terrain, while less confident riders can proceed at a comfortable pace. The route offers a dynamic mix of fast and slow segments, making each day unique and engaging.
🤝 MEETING THE LOCAL PEOPLE
A big part of the Kerege Travel experience is connecting with local communities. Kazakhstan is a melting pot of over 100 ethnic groups due to its Soviet past. You’ll visit rural villages, meet nomadic families, and enjoy meals with locals.
Expect warm welcomes, homemade berry jams, clotted cream with scones, and perhaps even a taste of koumis (fermented horse milk). It’s a cultural deep dive into the heart of the Kazakh way of life.
